I had to get a new RS232 to USB cable and the 3 new ones will not work because they keep coming up with un dowloadable drives. WHY??? I am working and my flight home is tomorrow morning. I need to get this fixed before I leave the Ford Motors plant.

What Surface computer are you using? If it is one of the new Surfaces with the SnapDragon ARM processors, the drivers for the USB to RS232 adapters will not be compatible with Windows on ARM. I don't know how likely it is that they will eventually get updated as the demand probably isn't there. You could try contacting the adapter's manufacturer to see if they are planning any driver updates or are willing to update them.
