my pen just randomly stops even when active and it's not a battery problem. how do i fix it or should i replace it?

    Hi TalishaJayarangsri,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community. When you say it stops working, do you mean it suddenly disconnect? Or it doesn't ink sometimes? May I know if what type of Surface device you are using with the pen? For the mean time, you may try these method and see if this works.

    • Press and hold the pen cap for 3-7 seconds.(Validation step to confirm device functioning: If there is no LED activity)
    • Reseat the pen tip, and test on 2 or more known app.(either by fingertip or extraction tool).
    • Restart Surface and attempt to pair pen.
    • Turn Bluetooth off and on, attempt to pair pen.(In Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & Other Devices window: “add Bluetooth or other device” > under “add a device” select Bluetooth.)

If you are using the Surface device, please follow these steps.

Method 1: Forced Shutdown your Surface

    • Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.

Method 2: Uninstall the HID Compliant Pen and touchscreen drivers

    • Go to device manager and look for HID Interface Devices and uninstall HID-compliant pen, HID-compliant touch screen and restart your Surface.

    Method 3: Surface Diagnostic toolkit

    • Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. It is a self-healing tool which looks for potential issues and fixes them, as well as ensures your device is completely up to date.

If these solution steps mentioned still don't resolve the issue, then you're facing a problem related to the hardware. If the Surface pen is with in one year from the time of its purchase date, you can visit any Microsoft Store and have your Pen replaced or contact Global Customer Service

If you have other questions or concerns, please let us know.

    Kind Regards,

    Rom G.
