As we sign into apps and websites, and other services, using our Microsoft Accounts. We are asked if we want these services to obtain basic information from our Microsoft Accounts, so we can use their services. This happens mostly with games such as Minecraft where we have to sign into our Microsoft Accounts if we are on networks such as PlayStation or Nintendo.

This article will show you how you can manage what is connected to your account, and how to remove those services you no longer use anymore.

Giving permission for apps and services to use data on our accounts

When we sign into sites, or games/apps, with our Microsoft account we often get this notification window appearing Infront of us

This window is asking for your permission for the service or app/game, to connect to your Microsoft account and obtain some information it needs/wants.

It will always list what the service/app is wanting to access. In order for the app to get this permission, you must accept. If you select no, then it will not provide the service any of its requested information. This is why we need to ensure we trust the service and we know why it needs to access the content it is wanting to access.

Managing services/apps connected to my Microsoft Account

We can manage services and apps connected to your Microsoft Account by going to: https://microsoft.com/consent

When you sign into your Microsoft Account, you will see a page listing all of the services and apps that are connected to your Microsoft Account

Clicking onto any of these will allow you to see what this service is accessing. If you find that you are no longer using a service, then you should remove it.

To remove it, simply click remove these permissions found under the permissions it has

You will be asked if you wish to remove its permissions. If you select yes, then you will be sent back to the page which lists all the services connected to your Microsoft Account.
