Hi Microsoft Learn Support Team,

I received an email notification from Microsoft Learn Q&A saying I was mentioned in a post. The post content made it look like I had written it, which caused confusion and panic.

After reviewing the thread, I saw that someone had simply typed "@Naveen Prabhu" in plain text. It appears that the platform sends mention notifications based on matching display names, even if the post isn’t actually tied to the user account.

This is very misleading — especially for users who don’t understand how mentions work. It gives the impression that your account was used to post something, which could lead to unnecessary fear or concern.

I suggest:

  • Only sending notifications for verified mentions (linked to real user accounts)
  • Or clearly stating in the email that the mention is not linked to your profile

Thanks for looking into this. Hope this helps improve the platform experience.
