Hello, Ly.
Welcome to Microsoft Community!
If your Surface Book 2 suddenly shuts down despite being fully charged, this could be a sign of an aging battery.
But I still recommend you try troubleshooting against the driver first:
- Plug in your Surface Book 2.
- Select Search on the taskbar, enter device manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
- Select the arrow next to the Batteries category.
- Double-tap or double-click Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery or Surface Battery, select the Driver tab, and select Uninstall Device > OK.
You can also right-click Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Battery or Surface Battery, and then select Uninstall device. 5. Select the computer at the top of all the categories, select the Action menu, and then select Scan for hardware changes. 6. Select Start > Power > Restart.
Next, go ahead and try to get the driver and firmware installer for Surface Book 2 manually:
Download Surface Book 2 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center
This helps us troubleshoot potential driver issues and maintain device performance.
The above steps usually work if the problem originates with the driver.
If your battery continues to consume at an abnormal rate, we may be able to further confirm the current state of the battery by looking at the battery report:
1. Open PowerShell:
Type “PowerShell” in the taskbar search box, then right-click “Windows PowerShell” and select “Run as administrator Run as Administrator”.
2. Generate a battery report:
In the PowerShell window, enter the following command: powershell powercfg /batteryreport.
When executed, the system generates a battery performance report and saves it to the user folder (usually in C:\Users\your username\battery-report.html).
3. To view the report:
Open File Explorer, navigate to your user folder, locate the battery-report.html file, and double click to open it to view the battery performance report.
The battery report generated by analyzing the report content will contain the following information:
- Battery design capacity and full charge capacity
- Charge cycle history
- Battery usage time and charging history
You can share the report to the thread so I can determine the situation for you.
For devices with hardware issues, Community Support usually ends up recommending that users get in touch with the Surface Technical Support team for hardware service.
However, it's worth noting that the Surface Book 2 was discontinued worldwide in 2024. Microsoft has also discontinued out-of-warranty repair services for this model. As community support we need to let you know about this.
These are some of the possibilities I can share with you at this time.
I'm with you.
Best Regards.
