Disk Optimization IS NOT Running Automatically Properly

Eddie, recall my stressing the importance of showing last run date in thread for disk optimization. Not positive if this started with 19042.508 /546

First noticed this in my main system last week running 20H2 (non-insider). Disk Optimization is not running automatically, had about 13 days showing last run, settings are at default to run weekly. Did a manual run back last week.

This snapshot is from a virtual machine 20H2 that I test software on daily. Both devices are kept current with builds.

This snapshot is from my main system today. Have to give it couple more days to verify and will file a FBH report at that time and update this thread. Please advise if there is anything else I can add with FBH report.

I thick it was Eddie who said it was cosmetic  and it should of ran , I don't think it should be called defrag  for SSD drives because it very confusing as it is  two different  methods to achieve similar outcomes..

like you I don't think Trim wasn't talked about in your first post about this issue or I can't remember.

MS should design a new program just for SSD as I think there enough of them about these days.

I'm trying to get some clarification on this and will let everyone know if I do.

    Hi Eddie,

Appreciate the response, still curious as to whether this concern is by design or a flaw.

As all SSD's use Trim rather than Defrag, does or does this not still get scheduled with Disk Optimization?

    Hi Eddie,

Appreciate the response, still curious as to whether this concern is by design or a flaw.

As all SSD's use Trim rather than Defrag, does or does this not still get scheduled with Disk Optimization?

    Regards,

After speaking with the feature owners here is what I have to share:

As per this Docs article scheduling Disk Optimization on SSDs is possible, however, the default maintenance task performs a few checks and then chooses to run required optimizations. The frequency of this task just means it will perform those check at that frequency but the defrag service may choose to not run the optimization on a volume. For SSDs, one of the checks is to ensure that it was a month from previous full defragmentation.

Also, as per the article VHDs are treating differently.

NOTE: There were some corrections that were needed to the Docs page that have been made now, so if you read it previously, please recheck it.

It does appear there may be an issue we need to investigate in regards to the last analyzed or optimized date. On the issue of scheduled settings not being retained after restart, please submit a separate feedback item in Feedback Hub.

    Hope this helps.
