Hi there,

So i have been getting this annoying error whenever i launch fortnite, which says "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may noth have the appropriate permissions..." I also tried using another game, PlanetSide 2, which uses BattleEye. This game also gives the same error. I have tried the following steps:

  1. Gave 'Everyone' full control permissions to the FortniteGame folder and the concerning file, did not work.
  2. Uninstalled fortnite, restarted comp, then reinstalled, did not work.
  3. Uninstalled fortnite, reinstalled, then restarted and tried to launch, did not work.
  4. Reinstalled both EasyAntiCheat and the BattleEye service, did not work.

How can i resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Salmaan

This is still listed as a Known Issue for 18898:

    • There has been an issue with older versions of anti-cheat software used with games where after updating to the latest 19H1 Insider Preview builds may cause PCs to experience crashes. We are working with partners on getting their software updated with a fix, and most games have released patches to prevent PCs from experiencing this issue. To minimize the chance of running into this issue, please make sure you are running the latest version of your games before attempting to update the operating system. We are also working with anti-cheat and game developers to resolve similar issues that may arise with the 20H1 Insider Preview builds and will work to minimize the likelihood of these issues in the future.

Which Windows build number are you running?  I wonder if support forums for Fortnite, or PlanetSide 2 will have any workarounds to get the games to work.

It is possible that the specific BattlEye file or folder being referenced is not there and that creating the folder that it is looking for could help.  Is there a newer version of BattlEye that works with the latest Windows 10?

    Hi there Don,

I am currently using a windows insider build version 18898. And yes, i have been checking the forums. A lot of people have said that the windows insider programme is causing the issue. I just wanted to confirm

If this is the issue, do you by any chance know when microsoft will release their next build to fix this,

Yes, they have said that we can expect a new build next week.  Plans can change if new issues preventing Insider testing appear.  I don't know if the anti-cheat software issue can be addressed by Windows changes only, or if BattlEye and others also need to make changes.
