ExplorerFrame.dll

Hi,

Since the last update, Windows 10 Insider Preview 20236.1000 (rs_prerelease),  cannot use Start Menu, Task Bar, Settings, Mount a Drive, Connect to any network, Check Updates etc.

Anything I try, it throws up ExplorerFrame.dll error. The message when I try to Register ExplorerFrame.dll is "The module explorerframe.dlll  was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.

I am badly stuck-up. Tried every possible suggestion available on internet, nothing seems to be resolving the issue.

Need Urgent guidance and help to resolve the issue. Clean install is a night-mare as I will loose all the customization done in Windows, Office and other programs/Apps.

Kindly help ASAP.

Thanks & Regards - Rajesh Pathak

    Hello Rajesh,

This is why it is so important to not use Dev channel builds on a working computer. Did you not make a recovery image to resort to.

You state "Tried every possible suggestion available on internet". So where does that leave us.

You might still have time, roll-back your system to previous working build and try this weeks build of 20241. Of course this depends on if you kept the windows.old folder.

Have you run these elevated command prompt commands:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    sfc /scannow

From here, only suggestion is go to UUPdump and create an ISO image of 20241, mount the image within windows and do an in-place upgrade to current Dev build. (Not sanctioned by MS).

    Regards,

    Hi Johnny,

Unfortunately this time I had not created a Recovery Image.

Yes, I have tried SFC, DISM, REGSVR32, etc. but nothing works.

The issue is such that, I cannot access Start Menu, Settings, USB devices etc. Thence, I may now try downloading 20241 from UUPdump and try an upgrade. Hope it works and goes through.

    Thank you for excellent suggestion.

    Regards - Rajesh Pathak

    Hi Rajesh,

Will keep fingers crossed that this works for you. In-place upgrades usually do. Appears your system got an unusual corruption somehow.

Please clear out the SoftwareDistribution \Download folder as well if you can prior to upgrade. Just in case.

    Regards,

Hi, I know that this build is out of date (one or two builds behind) but I am having an issue where the start menu isn't showing up, and when it does it's jumbled up and you cannot access the power settings. I am running "Build 20236.rs_prerelease.201009-1631"

I cannot connect to any wifi networks but ethernet works fine at the moment.

You are hitting a couple of known issues here.

First is the jumbled Start Menu. We're working on that one.

Second, can't connect to wifi. Do you have Malwarebytes installed with Web Protection running? If so, disabling Web Protection should work around that one. Again, we're working on a fix for it.

I'll have to see if I can find anything on the ExplorerFrame.dll issue. I'm not aware of that one.
