Large files take a long time to load since build 22533

The larger the file, the longer it takes to load. It happens with all programs (also the default ones) and with different file formats (iso, mkv, mp4). It happens only when I open the file directly or via "Open with" in the right click menu. When I open the same files via shortcuts in "Send to" or by dragging them on a shortcut to a supported program, they open instantly.

I've tested it today on a computer from a friend and experienced exactly the same. We did not experience this problem on previous builds.

It happens on AMD and Intel systems (both have 16GB RAM).

Does anyone know what causes this and/or know a solution?

Sadly this problem is not fixed in build 22538.

Did a System File Check and Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Disabling Core Isolation Memory Integrity (VBS) did not make a difference, so I left it enabled.

I just discovered that the files open instantly when I disable "Check apps and files" under "Reputation-based protection" in the settings from Windows Defender, but my system is vulnerable this way and I don't want to keep it disabled.

    Hello Herby,

I normally upgrade my Dev builds on a non-compliant laptop. For the first time while on build 22533 when I mounted the ISO for 22538, it did take several minutes to mount. This never happened before for this kind of delay (close to 5 min). This started with 22533.

There was an issue mounting ISO's in the past. I am only confirming your delay. Suggest filing a FBH report and record this for the engineers to look into further. Please share the link in this thread for others to upvote.

    Hi Johnny,

Uhm... I filled a report already, the link is in the first post.

It happens not only when I mount iso's, but also when I open them with UltraISO or any other program + with opening any file larger than about 500 MB.

When I open them with the supported program already open, they load instantly.

    Hi Herby,

Sorry if I missed the link. Forum was acting up when I first posted, didn't think the post went through, it disappeared. Upvoted and commented in FBH. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Johnny

    No problem. 😉

Just discovered that when I open the files without using explorer like via Command Prompt or Total Commander the files also open instantly.
