    Hi fg,

It wasn't a problem per se, Windows identifies my laptop as having Home SL license from factory, that's all.

I use ISOs from UUPdump to clean install Pro but thanks for the info, I'll give a try just for fun.

I know, I also have a Lenovo Laptop that came with Home edition, but was upgraded later to Pro.

    Same as your situation.

Easy to work around the problem using those 2 files ei.cfg and pid.txt.

I never did a clean install on that Laptop, but I had to use the same 2 files to install Enterprise on a PC that is originally licensed for Pro edition.

The Enterprise edition comes on the same ISO with Pro and other 3 editions.

The one from uup-dump to get Enterprise needs also Pro together on the same ISO.

Cannot get Enterprise by itself. 😉🤷‍♂️

    Hi Sibro,

Not sure if you ever used these ei.cfg and pid.txt.

I remember you mentioning an issue using a multi edition installation ISO when doing a clean install.

I had the same issue when I wanted to clean install an edition different from the one originally installed on the PC, which is saved in the UEFI firmware.

This looks like an easy way to get back the option to select the Edition to install.

Or just force it to the Edition desired by adding the pid.txt with the license key for the Edition selected.

This is sooooo typical of Microsoft. Why can't they get their **** together. For DECADES there was an option for choosing the edition of Windows when installing it. I had Win 11 Pro installed and downloaded Windows 11 through the Media Creation Tool. I proceeded with the download and installation, only to realize that it installed Windows 11 Home.

So now I can't even download a Windows 11 Pro ISO because of this "We are unable to..." nonsense. Microsoft basically keeps me from accessing what I paid for. I am so pissed off right now.

    @MartinTeichler,

There is a way around your issue and getting that option back. See this link below with the full description.

A simple file ei.cfg added in the Sources folder of the installation media will force to display the options and let you select the edition that you want. 😎

I just tried it out myself because I wanted to install a different edition that the one that was originally installed on the PC.

Worked fine for me. I could select any edition I wanted. 😉

Use Notepad and prepare a file with this content shown below.

Then save it as ei.cfg and copy it into the sources folder in the installation media.

I finally figured it out… and others can try this as well. Some ISPs use DNS addresses that block the download - AND block the ability to even start by using Windows Update. What I did - and it worked flawlessly for me: I went to the internet connection details and changed from the (DNS / IP Address / etc.) auto option to manual option and enabled IPv4 - then changed ONLY the primary and alternate DNS settings to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (respectively) and went back to windows update. Everything worked fine, and I had no need to download the ISO (which was being blocked as well) in order to do a clean install.

I hope that this helps - and that I am not the only one for which it did.

That is usually a problem with the local DNS getting out of sync, I don't think they block the download on purpose.

It may take several days to sync up.

You can find both IPV4 and IPV6 for public DNS in the link below:
