Installing or updating Microsoft Edge on Windows 11
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Hi, earlier today I've updated my Edge (using the standard method via "About Microsoft Edge) to the latest available version.
Since the update, Edge won't run at all. I've tried repairing it, reinstalling from the offline setup file but with null effect. From some other forums I see I'm not alone with this issue.
What's going on and how to fix it?
Sadly, I cannot restore, as I'm getting system restore error, even though the restore point was created as usual. The system seems to be fine - SFC and DISM don't find any issues. Looks Edge is messing up...

Many people are reporting that Edge is not running after this update. It's up to Microsoft to release a fixed build.
There is a workaround to get back to the old version 104 in the article below.

EDIT: confirmed workaround
All you have to do is go to regedit via Windows key + R and search for MetricsReportingEnabled under Edit -> Search . Delete the 1-2 entries and the Edge will start again.

Hi everyone,
We released version 105.0.1343.33, which resolves this issue. Microsoft Edge updater will update the browser automatically.

This Registry edit helped me, it fixed my edge problem. Strange that the bug affective my Desktop, but not my Laptop, at least so far.
Thanks for the fix!
I believe my laptop was not effected because It has been off till today, so did not get an update for Edge, I don't think it matters if it has Home, or Desktop pro version of windows 10.,

The removing of the registry entry worked perfectly! Thank you!

OMG! It worked. Why does this happen? Is it a bug?
I suppose we have to call it that. That registry key was supposed to govern whether some Edge usage data were sent back to Microsoft or not, and creating and disabling it was one of the many variously misguided measures recommended for those concerned about privacy. It was only intended for enterprise users on domain-joined machines. It became obsolete and stopped working a year and a half ago, but it's only now that its presence causes problems for those whose computers aren't domain-joined. I'm sure the bug will be squashed soon.
Some of those affected had used O&O ShutUp10++ – Free antispy tool for Windows 10 and 11 or similar - did you?
I did use O&O, but I even tried resetting back to defaults which didn't work for me.
