Edge won't run after the update 104=>105

Hi, earlier today I've updated my Edge (using the standard method via "About Microsoft Edge) to the latest available version.

Since the update, Edge won't run at all. I've tried repairing it, reinstalling from the offline setup file but with null effect. From some other forums I see I'm not alone with this issue.

What's going on and how to fix it?

Sadly, I cannot restore, as I'm getting system restore error, even though the restore point was created as usual. The system seems to be fine - SFC and DISM don't find any issues. Looks Edge is messing up...

Many people are reporting that Edge is not running after this update. It's up to Microsoft to release a fixed build.

There is a workaround to get back to the old version 104 in the article below.

https://www.deskmodder.de/blog/2022/09/02/microsoft-edge-105-105-0-1343-25

EDIT: confirmed workaround

All you have to do is go to regedit via Windows key + R and search for MetricsReportingEnabled under Edit -> Search . Delete the 1-2 entries and the Edge will start again.

It appears that if the redundant policy is set, it now breaks Version 106.0.1370.42

To solve the problem, run Command Prompt or Windows Powershell as admin, then copy/paste the first command below and press enter...repeat for the second command.

    reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /f /v MetricsReportingEnabled

    reg delete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /f /v MetricsReportingEnabled

On 106.0.1370.42 here and ran into this bug today after Windows Updates broke Edge. The registry hack mentioned here fixed the problem, the version of Edge did not.

    Hi Miko,

I am Sumit here to assist you with this question.

    That should not be happening.

Do you use any 3rd party antivirus?

As you said you have seen similar reports, I'll ask the Edge Team too.
