Arial font rendering issue on the browsers(Edge and Chrome) of Windows 10.

Hi Team,

Our website is using Arial font as a primary font to render content and recently(for around 1 month), we got a lot of user's reports that mentioned the font rendering wired. we found a lot of similar issues on Excel online

  • Excel Online text showing as symbols instead of Arial Font: Redirecting
  • Excel online displaying fonts Arial and Times New Roman as Wingdings: Redirecting
  • Strange formatting on Excel browser interface: Redirecting
  • Arial converts to Wingdings in shared Excel workbook. Redirecting

The situation is very similar that some users could solve this issue by restarting the system. but some could not. and I believe that this is not an issue only for Excel. I am wondering why this happens and how to fix it.

the following is what the Arial font looks like now for the user who meets this issue. it happens on both Chrome and Edge browsers( usually already updated to the newest version)

Looking forward to your reply

Good day Jing, thanks for your question. I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. If you have already checked this with the ones who is managing your website and there is nothing wrong with regards to it's publishing then the next thing to do is to submit a feedback to the team that is working on Edge and hopefully a fix will be applied soon on the next update and you can provide a feedback from the browser itself by clicking on the 3 dots > Help and feedback > Send feedback or press Alt+Shift+I while the browser is open.

    Regards,

    Paul R.

    02/09/2023 - 4:38PM PST.

We have the same issue, Arial font renders incorrectly as symbols in Excel online. All other fonts work fine, it's exclusively Arial.

However, most of our documents are in Arial font, so this is a real issue for our organization.

Issue presents by user-account and will occur across multiple browsers, including Edge and Chrome.

We are running Edge 110.0.1587.41 x64.

Just wanted to chime in on this post.

we are an MSP and have had the same issue creep in for 3 of our clients using 365.

it seems to affect random users, but if Microsoft has a fix that would be great.

I have raised a case with 365 support in the meantime, but so far they have not been able to clear the issue.

I am also having this issue for one user.
Restarting fixes the issues, but it usually returns the following day.

-I have cleared Cache in Edge/Chrome.
    -Cleared Win/User Temp data.
-File opens fine in Excel Desktop App. Issue only occurs in OWA.
-Change Sans-serif font from Arial to Cambri (as suggested in another forum post).

-Tried other PCs, it's it works fine. Happens on specific machines.
    -Reinstalled Chrome/Reinstalled Edge (through PS).

Would like to hear more about other options to fix this issue.
I have no idea what I can do to further troubleshoot this issue.

    Thanks.
