How do I stop a website from automatically opening when I open Microsoft Edge?

Recently I opened a website from my local internet provider, and it was a free fiber upgrade, an existing service of theirs. However, when I shut down my computer and used it again the following day, this website keeps on automatically opening when I open edge. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? It is annoying.

I never entered any personal information on the said site after this event happened.

This is the link on the website that automatically opens on my browser:

Your responses are deeply appreciated.

Bleeping Computer is NOT a sketchy site, it is one of the most respected sites for Security and virus cleanup on the web. Here is a more direct download link: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner

Why would you ever need to replace your computer if it gets infected? That is software which can always be cleaned up or reinstalled. A computer is hardware, but even if you have hardware fail (which you cannot from a virus) that can also be replaced. That's like saying you would have to replace your car because it got dirty. So please keep asking back questions that you have so we can clear up any other misconceptions.

I think that web provider has somehow gotten you to set it as Home or Start page. Did you check what page is set for both of those?

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

Hi Pilej. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

Check in Edge Settings > Start, Home & New Tabs to make sure it's not listed there somehow.

If not then in the section there When Edge Starts, make sure Open tabs from previous session is not selected.

Next make sure you didn't subscribe to web notification from the website inadvertently as shown here: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-manage-web-n... although this should not open a full webpage.

Check for any extensions you didn't enable: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-e...

If none of those explain it then you may have malware adware or spyware. Run a full scan with Malwarebyes from https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/. Enable Root Kit scanning in it's Scan settings. You can turn off the free trial in it's Account Settings if you want to keep it, which I would do because nothing else comes close to its thoroughness. But you don't need the Real Time protection if you don't get routinely infected.

Then run a full scan with AdwCleaner from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcle....

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

Hi Mr. Carmack, I appreciate your reply. I recently tried to scan my desktop with Microsoft Anti-Malware Signature package. According to the results, there was no malware or any intrusive viruses detected. I will try these methods you recommended. Thank you very much and have a nice day.

Apparently, when I try to click on the link you provided (AdwCleaner), I get redirected to that sketchy site. Can you give more suggestions if you don't mind? I already tried scanning it with Malwarebytes and ran another full scan on Microsoft Anti-Malware Signature package and it doesn't register any viruses. I really don't have any money to replace my PC if my system unit gets corrupted because of a virus that's why I need your help.

Good day, Mr. Carmack! I am sorry if you are misunderstanding something. What I meant about that "sketchy" site is the internet provider's fibre upgrade form. I don't know what exactly happened but that site stopped automatically launching on my browser. All I did was follow your earlier advice to install Malwarebytes and run a scan. I also did a Microsoft Defender offline scan. I really appreciate your help, I will proceed to download AdwCleaner to further strengthen my system's security. Thank you very much, for your time and compassion! The community is a better place with people like you.
