Unable to/Blocked from changing Microsoft Edge Search Engine

I bought a new laptop and I currently cannot change search engine from Bing to Google on both versions of Microsoft Edge.

For the newer Microsoft Edge, when I hover my mouse on the drop down option to change the search engine, the mouse turns into a blocked icon mouse.

For the older version of Microsoft Edge, there is no heading under Advanced settings to change the search engine.

Please help. I really detest Bing but I do like Microsoft Edge as it seems to be faster for me.

    It doesn't help unfortunately.

The browser (Microsoft Edge) refuses to allow me to change my search engine to Google - my mouse changes to a 'blocked' icon; it is greyed out and will not let me use the drop down function to change the search engine. I have called Microsoft services hoping to get an answer but to no avail. Appreciated the time they gave though.

Their answer is that Bing is set as a default search engine and it currently cannot be changed due to the recent update of Microsoft Edge; Google can be made as a home page but not as a search engine which to me is stupid because my other laptop is up to date, and I can still change the search engine.

What now? Is it truly the Edge update? Am I then supposed to wait for a new update for this to be fixed? WILL it be fixed?

It just frustrates me that I can use google as a home page but simply cannot change it as my search engine. It's a personal preference.

    Greetings,

I appreciate your time getting back to my email , I am using also the new Edge browser and I am able to change my default search engine.

Try to reset your Edge browser you are using and restart your pc and check how it goes.

If there's still an option for you to uninstall it uninstall the Edge browser under apps and settings.

To re-download the Edge you can go to this link

    Hi folks,

It looks like this thread has seen a recent increase in views, so I want to highlight some possible causes of this issue.

    • Device is in S mode - Devices in S mode have limited customization options (FAQ here)
    • Group Policy has this feature disabled - You can check edge://management and edge://policy to determine if your device is managed by your organization and what settings they have configured. In some cases, personal devices will show information on these pages if group policy has been configured by the user or a third party tool.

If neither of the above apply to you and you're unable to set your search provider, please reply here with your Microsoft Edge version number and when you started seeing this.

    Thanks!

    -Alex
