All Bing searches on Edge redirected to Yahoo (possible Malware?)

I have noticed that all of my searches are redirected to Yahoo but run through a weird web address first. This happens regardless of whether I search from the web address box on the Edge browser or directly on Bing.com, I have even tested searches on Google.com - the same thing happens.

For instance, if I search "test", the bing web address redirects to this web address ( https://t.supersimplesearch1.com/searchn/pre/?n=69&q=test_ ) which then redirects again to search.yahoo.com

I installed no extensions at the time this happened and there's nothing installed out of the ordinary. Furthermore, I have checked that Bing is still showing as my default search engine.

Have also checked the Chrome browser and this is unaffected.

I have tried to uninstall Edge on Windows 10, but that's not possible. So I clicked 'Modify' and 'Repair', but it hasn't fixed the issue.

I have also ran a scan via Norton 360 and Malwarebytes and no malware has shown up, though it must be there somewhere.

How can I resolve this? :(

    Hello Carl414,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Windows user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. When was the last time it worked properly?

Make sure to backup first your Edge Favorites

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/143983-how-...

Please try the following methods below.

    1. Open Edge then paste this to the address bar

    edge://settings/search

    Press Enter

Search engine used in the address bar = select Bing(Recommended)

    Click manage search engines

Find yahoo in the list then click the 3 dots next to it

    Click Remove

    1. Disable or Uninstall Edge extensions

Open Edge > Click 3 dots > Extensions

Please check if one of your Extensions is forcing your search to use Yahoo.

If this doesn't work, You may need to consider performing a Reset of Edge Chromium.

Open Edge then click 3 dots > Settings

Select Reset Settings > Restore settings to their default values

    Click Reset

Restart your computer using Clean boot of Windows 10

    **Perform a Clean Boot

Determine whether a background program or a software conflict is causing the issue.

Go to the search box > type MSConfig.

Select System Configuration > go to the Services tab.

Select and put a check mark on "Hide all Microsoft services" > Click Disable all.

Go to Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all the unnecessary services running there. Restart your computer.

Kindly check the support article below for more details

Kindly let me know if this helps or if you have any further concerns.

    Thanks for your speedy response.

I disabled the extensions and established that one of them went rogue (Nucleus VPN). Though I have double checked and Microsoft has removed it from their site, so they must have had reports.

So all is resolved. Thanks for your help :)

    Hey John,

I've been wrestling with this and your advice was bang on. I clicked on the three dots on top right; clicked on extensions and removed an extension that was there.

What I will say to the community is that the extension may not explicitly say "Yahoo" extension. Instead, the problem will be embedded into some other extension. For example- in my case it was some extension called "Nightfall Mode"....so you may have to keep trying one by one until this malware is removed.

    thx again. Good luck everyone!

Works when following both steps with removing default and extensions.
