We can't sign you in right now

Microsoft Edge sign in requires the latest version of Internet Explorer to be installed on this device. Please install Internet Explorer 11 from https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2118167 and try signing in again.

I keep getting this error and have not been able to find a way around it.

I mean really, why do i still need to have IE 11 installed, c'mon Microsoft this is ridiculous and totally stupid.

How can I resolve this issue?

    Thanks for your patience!

The team has looked into this issue and determined this is related to Compatibility mode. On Windows 10 if Edge is configured to run in Compatibility mode as Windows 8, you will see this error. This is not a supported configuration to run Edge on Windows 10.

The fix for this is to turn Compatibility mode off (right click on Edge from the File Explorer > Properties > Compatibility tab > Uncheck "Run the program in compatibility mode for:")

I am tired of struggling with MS and have decided to go back to Chrome which seems to be far more user friendly........

Goodbye Microsoft Edge, maybe we will meet again in the future.......

    Hi Alexandra

    Hi Alexandra,

    1. I reset IE
    2. Disabled IE 11
    3. Rebooted Pc
    4. Enabled IE 11
    5. Rebooted again.
    6. No luck didnt work.

Still takes me to setup Edge page and still tells me it needs IE 11 when I click in sign in.

Even if I go thru the setup.

    Hi all,

Thanks for your posts on this error appearing even when you have IE11 installed, I'd like to gather some additional info to help the team look into this.

For anyone who hasn't already done these troubleshooting steps:

Folks in this thread have specifically mentioned the support articles are difficult to digest - If you have any questions, please let me know!

If the above doesn't resolve the issue for you, please submit feedback via Edge's "…" menu in the top right > Help and feedback > Send feedback, include diagnostic data and include my handle (Alexandra-R) in your description. After submitting, please respond here to let me know you've submitted and also provide your Windows Version and Build (please include if you're Enterprise or Consumer). After getting this information, I will follow up with the team directly to dig in to what's happening.

I apologize for the delay in responding to this, I appreciate the information you've already provided here and any additional info provided via in-app feedback.

    -Alex

I have the same issue on a Windows 10 Enterprise edition device (MS Surface Pro). Domain joined, running both Edge and IE11 installed. Cannot get it to sign in at all. I've also tried everything mentioned above.
