Edge - Disable "Selected Text" Context Menu for Highlight, Highlight & Sticky Note and Google Search

There is a context menu that is common to both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It appears when text is selected on a page. ( Pictured below).

The buttons are in order, left to right

  1. Highlight
  2. Highlight & Sticky Note
  3. Search Google using the selected text

Q: How can that be disabled in Microsoft Edge? (or Chrome since we're talking about it)

NOTE: I am not talking about the '...' (ellipsis) menu.

I have already tried these in Settings - Appearance - Context Menus

  • Right Click Menu - Show smart actions (doesn't affect the menu shown below)
  • Smart Explore - nothing in there affects the menu shown below
  • Mini Menu on text selection - this controls whether or not the ellipsis (...) menu shows up and does not affect the menu shown below

My fear is that it's a required feature of Chromium and cannot be disabled.

Hi, I'm Robinson, and I’m happy to help you today.

I know how frustrating this may be for you but I'll do my very best to help you.

I found this thread on the Google Chrome forum and looks like it is not a browser feature, but it is created by the extension "Diigo Web Collector extension". Uninstalling this extension should remove this feature. You can see more information at this link.

Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products).

To reinforce the focus of this topic here's a picture of the "Context Menu" and the Website Menu (which is a highlighting tool inside the web).

Note: this is not the only website that has this problem. I'm just tired of working around this issue. Further, I haven't found a common name for this context menu which makes searching for a solution even harder. The Context Menu was horribly behaved in Chrome (same problem I'm describing here), and now I see it in Edge.

You nailed it. The Diiigo extension offers a checkbox that enables/disables that. Now I understand why its in multiple browsers.

Thank you for the fast reply.
