Launching Microsoft Edge on Android devices
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Upon opening the Microsoft Edge browser on my Mac Mini M1, it takes too long. The app icon in the dock bounces 11 times!!! Ridiculous. How can I speed it up? Brave browser, which is also Chromium based, only takes 5 bounces to open.
The following folder is 1.3GB large and if I delete it, then it grows immense again. I think it is the culprit but there is no way to manage it.
/Users/name/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Edge/Default/Service Worker/CacheStorage
Typing this URL allows me to deregister Service Workers and this did speed up Edge opening to only one bounce. edge://serviceworker-internals/

Hello, SoCal Surf
It seems like you’ve tried several solutions to speed up Microsoft Edge on your Mac, but the issue persists. I recommend providing feedback directly to Microsoft so they can investigate and potentially address this problem in future updates. Here’s how you can do it:
In the meantime, if the performance of Edge continues to be an issue, switching to another browser like Brave, which you’ve mentioned performs better, might be a practical solution.

Edge has returned to taking 11 dock bounces to open. It seems there is no way to maintain a quick opening of Edge over time. I may have to switch to Brave browser.
Hello, SoCal Surf
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
Deregistering Service Workers using the URL edge://serviceworker-internals/ can indeed help speed up Microsoft Edge. These are scripts that run in the background, separate from web pages, to enable features like offline functionality, push notifications, and background sync. They can sometimes slow down the browser if they are not managed properly.
Additionally, Service Workers can also store a significant amount of data in the cache and IndexedDB. Deregistering them clears this data, which can free up resources and improve browser performance. Regarding the large folder at /Users/name/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Edge/Default/Service Worker/CacheStorage, this folder can grow large because it stores cached data from websites you visit, which helps to load pages faster on subsequent visits. If you visit many websites regularly, especially those with heavy content like videos and images, the cache can fill up quickly. Some browser extensions and web apps might also store a lot of data in the cache. Another reason is that Edge and its components might be updating frequently, adding to the cache size. Microsoft Edge for Mac has a feature that allows you to automatically clear browsing data when you close the browser. This includes clearing the cache. Here’s how you can set it up:
Also, when you open Edge, it has to initialize all active Service Workers. By deregistering unnecessary ones, you reduce the number of processes that need to start, leading to faster browser launch times.
