C:\Users\..\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data took too much space

To whom it may concern,

I am using windows 11 at the moment. I have discovered that from September 2024 onwards that the following folder

C:\Users..\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data

is getting larger and larger to the point that it is taking one third of my SSD hard drive space.

What are the names of the subfolders from the

C:\Users..\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data

folder that can be safely deleted without affecting the normal operation of Microsoft Edge and without deleting any stored passwords.

Please advise. Many thanks for your kind assistance.

Regards

Lawrence

    Hi Lawrence,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. We are happy to help you.

The User Data folder contains your Edge Profile Data. It includes everything - from History to cache. You must not remove that or delete anything in that for smooth operation.

Use Treesize and navigate to the User Data folder after selecting C. Send us the screenshot afterward. We will tell you what aspect is taking up data inside it.

You can send us a screenshot after selecting the drive for the next steps.

    Hi Sumit,

I have used TreeSize to identify the big subfolder.

The subfolder named "extension_ldehhnlpcedapncohebgmghanffggffc_0.indexeddb.blob" under the directory "C:\Users....\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\IndexedDB" is around 149 gigabytes.

    Regards

    Lawrence

    Thanks, Lawrence. Oh gosh!

This is some extension - it seems like some memory leak is there.

You can delete the contents inside that I believe, you can verify if you want, by going to:

    edge://extensions/

Note the ID from that page and match to Idehhnlpcedapncohebgmghanffggffc to see what extension the is.

Hope that helps, and rely on us for any further inquiries. All the best.
