Issue printing PDFs from Edge - Print preview failed

Hi,

I have several users that came to me and mentioned that they are getting an error message when printing any PDF file from Edge. It used to work fine.

When they select Print, the print dialog window opens and where the preview should be it states "Print preview failed". In the top left corner above the Printer it states "Total: Can't calculate." The only option available is the Cancel button.

The users have different printers selected. Even one user has the default "Microsoft Print to PDF" driver selected.

I just tried it on my computer and I'm getting the same error message.

We all have Edge Version 124.0.2478.19.

Just had this come up today as well. Further investigation showed the user had for some reason switched to a beta version of edge. We directed them back to the stable version and the problem went away.

    Tommy,

We are having issues opening PDFs within Edge and then printing them. I will try to downgrade Edge to a Stable channel to see if it is an issue with the Edge version we are using.

We can print a webpage from Edge and print in any other software applications on the computers. The issue is only with opening a PDF within Edge and then printing it.

The issue is with a number of different printer drivers as well as the built-in Microsoft Print to PDF driver. I don't think the drivers are the issue.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Same issue here with Edge 126.0.2592.56 on Windows 10 22H2. The user also had the same problem with Chrome until we updated this to the latest version of Chrome which worked. However, there are no newer updates for Edge at the time of writing.

It would appear this is a Chromium issue and Chrome has been fixed, but Edge has not yet - win10:Print preview failed [339994760] - Chromium

Thank you Terry - not sure why my Edge version had gone to the beta (124.0.2478.19) but after seeing your post I turned the "Preview Microsoft Edge Releases Early" to off which then downloaded and installed 123.0.2420.81. Quick restart and now it prints pdf files as before. The whole "cannot calculate" situation was a random to say the least and didn't point to any particular reason.

for me going to the stable (124 vs 125) doesn't matter

both don't work, both can't print PDF but can print anything else

i always get: Total: can't calculate. in both browsers versions.
