Hi. I've been having problems with Microsoft Ege which does not show context menu options such as "New Tab" and "InPrivate Windows" when right-clicking the Microsoft Edge taskbar.

Previously I had these options in when resetting my PC. However, after some updates, the context menu only shows "Microsoft Edge".

I found this previous thread on the same issue and tried all the solutions posted, however it doesn't seem to work.

Microsoft Edge Context Menu missing - Microsoft Community

I tried to resetting Microsoft Edge setting & and repairing the Microsoft Edge setting.

I went as far as uninstalling Edge by deleting the registry and deleting all files related to Microsoft Edge and reinstall it but all of these methods do not work.

Is there any way to enable the context menu for the Microsoft Edge taskbar?

I'm currently running :

Microsoft Edge version 114.0.1823.67

Windows 22H2 with latest update 2023-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5027303)

Microsoft Edge | Other | Windows 11

I don't think it is related to the Microsoft Account since there's no option for Edge to sync the context menu items into the account. I believe it has to be either a Registry setting or a profile problem. Can you please try this and see if it works?

    • Unpin Edge from the taskbar
    • Open the Start Menu > All Apps > Right-click Microsoft Edge > More > Pin to taskbar (Do not open yet)
    • Go to Windows Settings > Personalization > Start
    • Toggle off the option "Show recently opened items in Start, Jump Lists, and File explorer
    • Turn it back on
    • Open Edge > three dots > New InPrivate window then use it for a few minutes and then check if the issue is fixed

I am not encountering this, so I am still checking for possible fix. Is it the same if you create a new Edge profile? I'm thinking it is possible that the current profile in Edge is corrupted.

I do not have any other Microsoft Account but I tried creating a new Guest account. Both have the same context menu option.

I thought the new update removed the context menu from Microsoft Edge and everyone has the same context menu. I also removed all of the extensions just in case they could be messing with the context menu, but the result is still the same.

Thank you so much for help. I know its just a small inconvenience to not have the context menu, but it really slows down my workflow.

No, what I meant was creating an Edge profile. But since it also doesn't show in Guest account, I guess the problem is in Edge. Can you try installing the version from the Microsoft Store and check if it's the same?

Since the past few updates, Microsoft has removed the option to uninstall Microsoft Edge. So, when I opened the Microsoft Store, it showed the app as Installed. However, I did manage to remove all of the components by deleting all the Microsoft Edge registry in The Windows Registry Editor (regedit), end tasks for all of the Microsoft Edge and then deleting all of the folders related Edge in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft .

I tried this steps in the link below:

How to Permanently Uninstall Microsoft Edge in Windows 11 / 10 (codeprofessionally.com)

I then download Microsoft Edge from Microsoft website and installing it again. Unfortunately, this also doesn't work.

Speaking of Guess account, I tried creating a Guest account in my Window just now.

Oddly enough, Microsoft Edge in the Guest account did have the Context Menu.

Since the Guest account has the Context Menu, I then tried to create another account using my email address. But the new account does not have the Context Menu.

Could this be related to my Microsoft account settings? It seemed weird that the Guest account has the Context Menu while my personal account doesn't.

I tried login into my Microsoft account but there's no settings related to Edge.
