Why is my Google account suddenly asking me to verify that it's me?

I logged out my account by accident and before it was not making me verify that it was me using the account. I am NOT using the phone number I currently have listed as the 2 step verification process. Is there a way i could change my number and be able to log back in? This is my school account and I need to be able to log back in, or is there a way I can change it so there's no two step verifications.

google knows i have a LANDLINE, and they do this on purpose since i refuse to let them spy through a cell phone. It started on November 4th. RIGHT before the 2024 election. Suddenly there's a disruption that boots me from log in and refuses to let me back in. Already scanned and removed a Spigot installer that was found on my system.

There really are times Google does s*** to piss people off during election years.

    Hello, Jade Reid (hcps-reidje)

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Google may ask you to verify your account for security reasons, especially if it detects unusual activity. Regardless of whether you want to change your phone number or disable two-step verification, you need to log in to your Google account first. If you can't log in, you won't be able to make any changes.

If you’re still having trouble, I recommend reaching out to your school’s IT department for further assistance.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

    Best regards

    Yuhao Li

I am now being asked at least twice per week, simply for adding a filter to delete spam messages. Security is fine, but it should be in the control of the user. I have no 'unusual activity' ;-)
