original title: Shutdown Win 7 without updates

Is there a way to shutdown windows 7 without being forced to install the updates? There are plenty of times when updates are ready but i want the computer off and ready to move. I hate having to wait for updates when i don't even tell it to do them.

    I hear that the shutdown option you desire was requested during the beta of Windows 7 but the request apparently went unheard.

    Sorry but, about the only thing I can suggest is to change Windows Updates' settings to allow you when to decide to download and install the updates when you have the appropriate amount of time to do so. My Win 7 system is set to that option so I can't say what the Download updates but let me choose whether to install them option will give you another shutdown option that does not install updates.

    I think this following way can help

    go to

    Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update.

    There, you will find an option called “Do not adjust default option to ‘Install Updates And Shut Down’ in Shut Down Windows dialog box”. If you enable this, then clicking “Shut Down” will just shut down your computerwithout installing updates. However, the “Install Updates And Shut Down” option is still available in the little menu, in case you need it

    The easiest way is to press <CTRL>-<Alt>-<Del> and to use the read button at the lower right corner. There you can select between "Shutdown" without installing the patches and "Stutdown with installing patches"

    No , by configuring Group Policy in that manner the "Install Updates and Shut Down" optionwill not be the Default choice in the Shut Down Windows dialog -

    This policy setting allows you to manage whether the 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option is allowed to be the default choice in the Shut Down Windows dialog.

    If you enable this policy setting, the user's last shut down choice (Hibernate, Restart, etc.) is the default option in the Shut Down Windows dialog box, regardless of whether the 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option is available in the 'What do you want the computer to do?' list.

    One can Enable the policy " Do no display 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option in the Shut Down Windows dialog box " to prevent that option from being displayed to the User

    This policy setting allows you to manage whether the 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option is displayed in the Shut Down Windows dialog box.

    If you enable this policy setting, 'Install Updates and Shut Down' will not appear as a choice in the Shut Down Windows dialog box, even if updates are available for installation when the user selects the Shut Down option in the Start menu.

    If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, the 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option will be available in the Shut Down Windows dialog box if updates are available when the user selects the Shut Down option in the Start menu.

    Also, one can  first press [Ctrl ] + [Alt ] + [Delete ] and then choose the Shut down option, as shown in this graphic and the system can be shut down without installing any updates
