Mouse and Keyboard not working after Windows 7 updates

I have Windows 7 Home Edition.  My CPU did the latest Windows update overnight, now the keyboard and mouse aren't working.  I have rebooted and unplugged both many times.  I keep coming back to my login screen, but I can't do anything from that point.

I prsume your keyboard is USB?  If you can find a friend who has an older keyboard with a PS/2 connector, you might try that, F8 again and select Last Known Good.

It's not yesterday's updates per se, because I have them on all my PCs (I hate the 2nd Tuesday in the month because I run around the house like some mad woman making sure 1 Vista 64 bit, 2 Server 2008 R2 64 bit, 2 Windows 7 32 bit and 4 Windows 7 64 bit are all downloading correctly and rebooting if necessary. All keyboards and mice are working fine here.

I have the same problem.  My keyboard suddenly isn't recognized in a whim.  Without warning, Windows 7 64-bit, Service Pack One freezes. All inputs, ps2 keyboard & ps2 mouse included, freeze and I have to lose data because my system is frozen solid.

This lockup problem has plagued me...wore me out....  I really do go schizoid...working in a majorly obsessed manner in meagerly trying to find and fix the problem.  This includes reinstalling windows ect.....only to have it happen again.  If the NTFS file system and its security file protection system hasn't driven me over the edge in trying to take back ownership of my files, The security system in the Registry will swallow up days of my time trying to correct/delete old program registry settings that have remained for the sake of just keeping my computer bogged down for no reason.  I have to gain access to each tiny piece of a registry key with sub-entries.  Each tiny piece gets 4 or 5 steps for me to regain control.  T

hen, that folder will open with 4 more subfolders in it.  The "Apply setting to subfiles and containers" never really works...and I have to do it by piece meal.  All because I don't want a program anymore and I don't want it's registry entries ballooning up my registry file for no good reason.

What a time waster....A real waste of anyone's time.

I dislike complaining but when my system goes goofy for no reason, and I am forced to  spend many many hours troubleshooting instead of enjoying my computer and using it for my business... I'd at least like to think that the updates have nothing to do with it.

The troubleshooters in Windows 7 ....and Vista have never worked for me....none have ever resolved any of my problems.  This whole "error reporting and checking for solutions" masquerade to me is just that.  A masquerade of false promises.

On the other hand, I am so so glad for what Bill Gates has provided for us....  I love Windows Media Center and it's Television and Radio capabilities.  I love recording up to 3 different High Definition television shows at once.  I love how we can now burn our own music CD's and movies.

I am just glad to be alive with Bill Gates.  To me, he really is Santa Claus and I really appreciate his ideas and everyone's willingness to believe in what he does and their excruitiating effort to make it all come true.  The time I have spent fixing problems is nothing when compared with the time the programmers have had to put in to make all of this...come true.

All good things improve with time.  I can see the framework is already laid down upon us,  We are ready for a wonderful future ahead.

I was able to type this in one sitting wasn't I?

If you can't type in your logon, then safe mode doesn't work either as both screens require a password.

Did you solve this problem? Has anyone solved this problem? I have exactly the same problem. MS has beamed down a fatal chase your tail, ha ha ha, update in the night. Now the keyboard doesn't work, the only way in is through a remote session. Sometimes I think this is a revenue stream.
