Hi MG-1066,

By default the NUM LOCK status is the same as it was in when you properly shut down the computer. If it was on when you shut it down it will be on when you again turn the computer on.

You may also use the following steps to change the setting:

1.      Run Registry Editor.

2.      Move to HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.

3.      Change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators to 2.

You may refer to the below article for details regarding the same - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154529

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:  322756  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Hope this helps. Let us know the results.

Thanks,

Using "2" as the value for InitialKeyboardIndicatorsturns NumLock on, not off.  To turn it off, use "0" (zero).

In windows XP the NumLock is always on.  Have tried to change the value in regedit to correct this.  It does not matter if I use 0,1, or 2 it is still always on when restart the computer.  Anyone have an idea?  Thanks.
