    Hi Cissy95501,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers community.

Since when are you facing this issue?

You may try the below steps.

    1. Click on start button.

    1. Type gpedit.msc and press enter.
    2. Go to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar4. Make sure that the option "Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Sleep and hibernate Commands" is either set to Not Configured or Disabled.
    3. Close Group Policy editor window.

    Hope this information is helpful.

Let me know if this worked.

    Thanks and Regards:

I have a similar problem, and I was told gpedit.msc could help. The only file on my PC with the name 'gpedit' is a dll (C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.dll)! I can't find an actual Group PolicyEditor! Any tips?

    Thanks,

    Rifdhan

    Hi,

Which operating system are you using? Tell us the complete name of the operating system along with the edition.

Group policy management is only available on few of the windows 7 editions like Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 7 Enterprise.

On windows vista only windows vista Business, Enterprise and Ultimate has this feature.

    Thanks and Regards

    Hello Ziglmorf,

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Sorry you are having a problem with this!  Do you have another user account on your computer you can use to test?  If you would log into another user account and verify your power plans and reboot.

I have added some steps below for an SFC Scan.  Please let us know status.  Thanks!

    Running the System File Checker…

    1.     Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    2.     Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    3.     In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:

    sfc /scannow

    1.     You should see the following on-screen messages:

Beginning the system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    Verification % complete.

This is a brand new computer with Windows 7.

I have had this happen twice now and it sems to be after an update.

I have reset the computer to the prior day and the shut down button appears again.

I will try your solution the next time the problem occurs.

    Thank you very much.

    Karen
