I am trying to create a system recovery disk for Windows Vista SP2.  I have tried using DVD-RW and DVD+RW disks.  Each time the disk is ejected with a message to install a blank disk.  The disks ARE blank.   Is there a different format I should use.

Are you sure you mean a System Recovery Disk?  If so, the process is fairly simple but you do need the right equipment and programs.  You can make a bootable Recovery Disk using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ along with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.   This is not specifically for SP2 but will work with any version of Vista.  This version of a recovery disk does NOT allow you to re-install the OS - it's for recovery tools.

If you are looking for a recovery disk to reinstall the operating system then that cannot be made using any 3rd party software program.  You will need to contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a copy for a small fee (much less than the cost of a new OS).  Some computers allow you to make your own recovery disks from information contained in the recovery partition (if you have one) but again you will have to ask the computer manufacturer as each has their own process and procedure which we can't know for every manufacturer (if it is even available).  They can instruct you on how to make it.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

I thank you both for your input; however, my question is which DVD should I use -DVD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-R or another.   Please look again at my original question and you will see what I am trying to solve.

    Thanks again

Those links tell you what to use depending on the method being used - usually a CD-R or a DVD-R

    depending.
