I am trying to create a system recovery disk for Windows Vista SP2.  I have tried using DVD-RW and DVD+RW disks.  Each time the disk is ejected with a message to install a blank disk.  The disks ARE blank.   Is there a different format I should use.

I downloaded a Windows 7 Recovery Disc iso from SystemDiscs.com and also downloaded FreeISOBurner  to create a bootable CD. This worked like a charm! The price was also unbeatable! Only $19.75. Don’t waste time and money looking for solutions that are not real solutions to most PC problems. Honestly, these guys are just helping humanity at the price they sell their software. Love it! Love it! Love it!

.... this is  getting just ridiculous the link you've provided takes you to  2 other  web sites and wants you to  DL something  that  frankly can't be  verified. Its a good question that was originally asked  and everyone  is  avoiding a straight answer... can you make a remote bootable disk that can  recover a Vista machine.. something with a  Microsoft stamp on it  so I know I'm not going to  get hacked to bits.

I agree.   I am trying to fix a friend's PC running Windows Vista Home Premium x86.  I noticed that they are not getting automatic updates, and then I saw that they don't even have the service installed.  I tried to reinstall the service but that's not working.  The last thing I wanted to try is to repair the Vista installation but Microsoft does not offer any utility to repair the operating system.  I am repairing this PC for free as a favor to a friend.  I don't really feel like spending $20 to download a repair disk that may or may not fix it.
