Windows 7 hates my HP LaserJet 1200

Question

Windows 7 really hates my HP LaserJet 1200 USB.  Windows 7 is supposed to have built in support for LaserJet 1200.  Windows 7 says the built-in driver is not the correct driver for my device and it won't let met manually install a driver even if I could get one.  Any ideas on how to go about successfully installing an HP LaserJet 1200 printer in Windows 7?

Windows 7 64bits and HP LaserJet 1200 driver via network perfect fix:

1. Control Panel ---> Devices and Printers
2. Add a printer
3. Add a local printer
4. Create a new port ---> use (Local port) ...next
5. Port name ---> type printer location: type (\\FIN-PC\HPLaserJ) ...next
6. Install printe driver ... select (Windows Update)... wait for some minutes and more
7. Select 'HP'... then 'LaserJet 1200 PCL 5' from the list... next
8. Wait for some minutes or more... life would not be this simple if you don't try.

If HP has a Vista driver for the LaserJet 1200, use that.

You're gonna love this one! After researching the Windows 7 update site, I decided to download the recommended LJ1 200 driver from the update site.  I installed the update that was clearly marked HP LJ 1200.  Incredibly, it installed the drivers for the LJ 3050 family (dot 4).  I printed a test page to the new LJ 3050 printer that I had just installed and it came out perfectly on my LJ 1200.  Go figure.

I have numerous printers installed on a Window XP Home ED Sp3 computer all except my HP 1200 Laserjet installed as networked shared on Windows 7.

When attempting to install a Hp 1200 Laserjet on my Windows 7 RC1 the Windows Update Driver Function failed making it impossible to install the printer, here is my workaround.

This worked on 64BIT Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 allowing me install the HP 1200 Laserjet as a shared networked printer from myh Windows XP Home Ed Sp3 computer.

Then Download the a Windows UNiversal Driver 5.0.1 30 Sep 2009 5 PCL, 6 PCL or Postscript

Install it on your computer with the HP 1200 LaserJet Printer as a local printer if the plug and play fails install it manually using the New Driver button on the Advanced Tab in printer properties repalcing the existing driver.

Once the Universal Drive is installed and functioning, turn on printer sharing.

For the Windows 7 computer that you want to install the networked HP 1200 shared printer download and install the Windows 7 UNiversal Print Driver 5.0.1

Install the Windows 7 Universal printer driver, if the install hangs at the finish as it did with my installation simply END IT with Task Manager, use the Add Network Printer wizard. During the browsing for pritner the HP UNiVERSAL Printer should appear and allow you install.
