this application failed to start because side-by-side-configuration is incorrect

After upgrading to Windows7 x64 Professional I am now getting, "this application failed to start because  side-by-side-configuration is incorrect" on nero player. I have tried Reinstalling the program and uninstalling Microsoft Virtual C+++ packages with no results.

Any help would be appreciated.

    (a). Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps: 

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    sfc /scannow

    The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

    (b). Perform a check disk:

    Use the steps below:

    1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer.
    2. Right-click the drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check now. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select Automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will report problems but not fix them.

    To perform a thorough check, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan attempts to find and repair physical errors on the drive itself, and it can take much longer to complete.

    To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    1. Click Start.

    Depending on the size of your drive, this might take several minutes. For best results, don't use your computer for any other tasks while it is checking for errors.

    Update the .NET framework

    Download and install the latest .NET Framework

    If still the error persists please provide us the error log:

    Type eventvwr.msc /sin the address bar.

    ****List any events that are listed as "Error" in the main window when you go to "Windows Logs" and "Application." There are often a lot of them. Send us whichever ones you see listed for the last couple days. (Please also do for the logs in "System"). When you do, provide us the name of the "Source" and whatever is listed in the description box below the list of logs when you click on one.

    Hello, guys,

    Today I discovered that I had this problem and have been trying since the morning(it`s 8 P.M here now) to fix the problem.

    I tried reinstalling all of the Microsoft C++ stuff and none of that worked. But while I was searching for a fix I discovered something which included changing the data in some registry keys- there is some key that represents the version of the C++ thing which your program uses with other data under it that represent all of the version you have available of the same C++ program. It didn`t work out for me because I already had the settings suggested in the fix- my data was already with the same number as my top C++ version.

    But then I decided to change the number to the previous version that was installed, AND IT WORKED!!!


    Here`s which registry and how I modified:

    Windows Vista

    1. To open the Registry Editor, click the Start button and type “regedit.exe” (without the quotation marks) and press the ENTER key. If you see the User Account Control dialog box appear, click Continue.
    2. On the left side, expand the tree structure until you find the registry key that starts with "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.crt_".
    3. Expand the key above.
    4. Below that key, you should see a 9.0 key. Select the 9.0 registry key.
    5. In the right pane, make note of the number you see in the Data column for the row where the Name is set to (Default), in case you need to revert to this number later.
    6. Look through the list of numbers in the Name column and find the highest number.
    7. Double-click the (Default) string value to open the Edit String dialog box.
    8. Replace the number in the "Value data" box with the 2nd highest number(or last C++ version which worked fine for you) you saw in step #6. Click OK.
    9. On the File menu, click Exit to close the Registry Editor.
    10. After completing step #8 the issue may be resolved. If you continue to see the same problem restart the computer.

    Windows 7 and Windows 2008

    This problem is typically reported for computers running Vista. If you encounter the error message within a different environment, such as Windows 7 or Windows 2008, you can use the same steps listed in the Windows Vista section. The only difference is the registry key listed in step number 2. On computers running Windows 7 or Windows 2008 it will start with "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.crt_"

    The instructions you see above are edited but not created by me. Here are the original instructions:

    After making this change to the registry you may still see file association error message. To correct that part of the problem, follow the remaining steps: 

    1. Locate the Access executable file (msaccess.exe). By default, on a 32-bit version of Windows this is located in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\ folder. On a 64-bit version of Windows this is located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\ folder.
    2. Rename msaccess.exe to msaccess.old.
    3. Start the installer to create a version of msaccess.exe. To do this, start Access using the Start Button, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access 2010.

    Windows 7 and Windows 2008

    This problem is typically reported for computers running Vista. If you encounter the error message within a different environment, such as Windows 7 or Windows 2008, you can use the same steps listed in the Windows Vista section. The only difference is the registry key listed in step number 2. On computers running Windows 7 or Windows 2008 it will start with "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.crt_"

    Sandy,

    To do a reinstall you have to boot your original copy of Windows (7,Vista, whatever) and instead of choosing to "install a fresh copy" there should be an option to repair.

    Remember you gotta boot from CD, or flash drive, whichever you use to install windows.

    I am getting the exact same screen  message. I have tried all of these suggestions. Could you walk me through how you tried a repair reinstall of Windows 7, if it is not too much trouble.

    Hi Shekhar,

    Thanks so much for your help. Turns out the problem was caused by upgrading from Vista Ultimate x64 to Windows7 Professional x64 with "Help of" LPCMover from Laplink. Actually the update appeared to work fine untill I got the sisde by side errors from two programs that I do not use often so I did not notice the problem immediately after upgrading.

    The System File checker bombed out at 14%  and no other repair was much help.

    I decided to try a repair reinstall of Windows7 as a last resort before reformatting and doing a fresh install. Fortunately  everything is running perfectly now.
