Windows 11 Update Error 0x80073712 - Again

Question

I'm trying to update Windows, and it will not. The update is:

2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5028185)

Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80073712)

I found this article, it has a solution but it is not for the same update. Should I use the same fix verbatim? Or something else? Thank you.

0x80073712 indicates component store corruption.

From admin Command Prompt, please run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

And then run the KB5028185 offline installer

windows11.0-kb5028185-x64_c78aa5899ba74efdd0e354dfab80940402b3efa4.msu

2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5028185)

The restore health command produced the following:

Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077. The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

It appears that I am supposed to capture an image of my computer and use it as a source for the restore feature? But my computer is already corrupt? So then perhaps I could download some other source files someplace?

I will try the offline installer even though this didn't work.... thank you both for the help, I will report back.

Great. Glad it worked, and thanks for the feedback.

To ensure the update has been applied correctly, run winver.exe and check the OS build. If it says 22621.1992, you're up-to-date.

The manual installer worked. When I loaded Windows Update it still showed the update as needing to be installed, and so I retried it and it immediately failed and asked me to check for updates again. So after checking for updates, it no longer had the update and stated I was up to date. I'm throwing this out for others who might see this and think at first it didn't work, you have to recheck for updates to make sure (it will still show the update there after the manual install).

Hopefully it is all resolved! Thank you both, you had the same suggestion of using the manual install, I'll try that in the future.
