Hi Gerald8391,

What is the exact error message you receive?

**Step 1:**Put the computer in clean boot and test

Follow Step 1in the link below,

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If everything works fine after a clean boot, you can infer that some third party services are causing the problem.

Proceed with the remaining steps to pin-point out the third party service.

After you figure out the problem causing program, you may have to update or install a higher version of the program, if you seldom use that software you can consider uninstalling it.

Important: - Remember to put the computer back to normal startup follow step 7 in the link.

Step 2: Download and install the latest display adapter\video card drivers from the device manufacturer’s website and check

MS Visual C++ is different from Direct X. You can get Visual C++ from Ms. I don't know if the new version covers the old or not. Try the 2010 first and if that does not work try the older. If you need older than 2008 you should be able to find it from one of the following links.

    The 2088 version -

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2

    The 2010 version -

To get all the Direct X files use the direct X Web Installer, DirectX is not something you have one or the other of, you really should get them all. There are many directX .dll's -
