Disable Windows Search Indexer

Question

I'd like to know how to proceed in order to permanently disable the Windows Search Indexer in my otherwise fantastic Windows7 OS?

All you should need to do is click the Start button, type Services in the search field, and click the Enter key.  Scroll down and right-click on Windows Search and choose Properties.  Change the Startup type to Disabled which will stop it from running when you reboot your machine.  You can also click the Stop button to stop the service immediately.

To Disable this resource eating program on Win 10. Start/ Scroll down to Windows Administrative Tools/ Computer Management Click Services, Scroll to Windows Search, Right click,Select Properties-- Select Disable then reboot. Hope this helps :)

Crying shame that Microsoft has some dictative characteristics.  if only the word "OPTION" could be something more available as people like to choose.  Even God gave us the freedom of choice.  Microsoft is not God.

You can disable SearchIndexer by clicking:

Start menu->Computer->Right clicking Local Disk and selecting Properties->Un-check the box: "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" then click Apply.

This program is a waste of resources and creates more wear and tear on your disk than necessary for such a bad search that does not show the actual "path" location of the file your looking for, or just can't find the file at all. This fix will work for a good deal of time, however updates to the system or just over time it may come back regardless. Anyone figures out how to turn it off beyond that Please Post!

The Larch is correct, disabling the Indexing service just disables the indexing service… go figure. Search itself still works.

What you are probably thinking of which disables search in general (including the search box in Windows Explorer) is if you uninstall Search/Indexing in the Windows Features dialog box (optionalfeatures.exe).
