Well after much searching and trying different options, this is what I found:
The closest suggestion I found in the forums was this:

Printer sharing..
I am assuming that you know how to and have made the necessary share permissions on the computer which is hosting the printer.
To share a network printer being hosted by a computer running a 32 bit operating system with another computer running a 32 bit operating system, Vista or XP, you would go to Control Panel > ‘Printers’ > ‘Add Printer’ > ‘Add a network printer’. Apologies if you consider that I am stating the obvious.
Sharing a printer being hosted by a computer running 32 bit Vista or XP with a computer running 64 bit Vista is not obvious, because if you use the above method, it will not work.
So how? First, you need to know the name of the computer which hosts the printer, and the name of the printer to be shared.
Sitting at the host computer: The procedure is the same for Vista and XP
Start > My Computer > Properties > Computer Name tab > Change button. Write down the name that you see here because this is the computer name.
Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes > Right click on the printer to be shared > Properties > Sharing tab. Write down the name that you see here because this is the printer name.
OK. Now sit in front of the Vista 64 computer:
Start > Control Panel > Printers > Add printer > Add a local printer > Click on ‘Create a new port’ > ‘Local Port’ > ‘Next’.
The port name will look like this:\Computer name\printer name
So enter the names already retrieved, ensuring that you use the same format, then click ‘OK’.
At this point, you will be presented with the ‘Add New Hardware’ process. You can either select the make and model of your printer from the lists or insert your printer installation disk if you can’t find yours. The printer will be added, and you should be able to print a test page.
Mike Hall MVP - Windows Desktop Experience http://msmvps.com/blogs/mikehall/
It came the closest to working, but the print document just started to spool on the desktop computer and never actually printed, so I went out and bought another ethernet cable and attached the Okidata printer to the router and then basically followed the following instructions(using the driver for the C5150_c5200 from the Okidata website):
I've included a document below. You will need to download the Windows 7
driver for the C5150N first before trying these instructions.
Try the installation instructions below. If you run into a problem please
give us call at 1-800-Okidata for more interactive support.
On your desktop click start, control panel, Devices & Printers, View
installed printers,
Click on Add A Printer.
The Add Printer Wizard will pop up
Click NEXT
Choose local printer attached to this computer and click on NEXT
Then click on create a port and click on the down arrow and in the drop
down box select Standard TCP/IP Port and click on NEXT
The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard comes up and click on NEXT
In the top white box type in your printer's IP address and the bottom box
should fill in automatically. Your printer's IP address will look like
something like 192.168.1.101. To find the printer's IP address just press
ENTER 3 times on the printer and when the menu map prints out look for the
TCP/IP Configuration on the Network Information page. Once you fill in the
IP Address the click on NEXT.
Under device type click on Custom and then click on Settings
A new window will pop up and in the Configure standard TCP/IP monitor
window on the PORT SETTINGS tab under protocol select LPR. Then put a
Queue Name in the LPR Settings ex. C5150n and then click on OK.
You will be bought back to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard and
click on NEXT.
Now click on FINISH to complete the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard
and this will bring you back to the add printer wizard.
Back in the add printer wizard install software with the manufacturer and
printers listed. Under the printers window click on HAVE DISK and the
install from disk screen pops up and then on the bottom right corner click
on BROWSE.
Next in the locate in file box in the look in use the drop down arrow and
select your CD ROM drive and look for the folder that says Drivers and
double click on that folder. Then look for the folder that says Okidata,
double click on that folder, then C5150_C5200N, then English, then GDI,
then 32 bit or 64 bit. Then depending on your model it should say OK714,
OK724, etc. Highlight the file and then click on OPEN. This should bring
you back to the install from disk screen and in the Copy Manufacturer's
Files From you should see this:
Ex. C:\OKIDATA\C5150_C5200\English\GDI
If you see that the path is filled in then click on OK.
In the Add Printer Wizard Install Printer Software highlight your printer's
model and then click on NEXT.
If you see the use existing driver screen choose replace existing driver
and then click on NEXT.
On the next screen you want to keep the default name for the printer and
when you are asked to make this your default printer either choose YES or
NO and then click on NEXT.
Then you are asked if you want to share this printer and select Do Not
Share this Printer and click on NEXT.
Then you are asked to print a test page and select YES and click on NEXT.
The next screen that you see is a summery of all the settings that were
chosen and just click on FINISH. The finish screen will disappear and your
printer will be installed.
I'm not sure if this will help anyone else in the future, but I hope so and thank those who contributed to my quest.
Cheers,
Stuart
