Recovering Delete Volume

Question

Accidentally deleted volume.  Have done nothing to the disk since that moment.  Have read articles about recovering deleted NTFS volumes but the article also stated that perhaps it might not be applicablre to Windows 7.  Are there special procedures unique to Windows 7?

Article 245725 states:

To Recover a Deleted NTFS Volume

1. Re-create the exact same volume but choose not to format it. This may be difficult if you do not remember the exact size you had created originally, especially because the Disk Management snap-in tends to round partition sizes.
2. Using Dskprobe.exe, recover the backup boot sector for the NTFS volume from the end of the volume. Because it is a dynamic volume you may need to use Dmdiag.exe to help find the backup boot sector, or search for it by using Dskprobe.exe (on theTools menu, click Search Sectors).
3. After rewriting the NTFS boot sector, quit Dskprobe.
4. In Disk Management, click Rescan Disks on the Action menu. This should mount the volume for immediate use.

I have been very successful with this procedure. I accidently deleted a storage drive on my wifes computer and I am still alive and healthy. LOL.

I have never used the process you describe. If I was in your situation then I would tend to use a third party partition recovery tool, e.g. the one included with Acronis Disk Director 11. This is not freeware.

Amazing piece of software. I, too, deleted a volume accidentally, and this had it restored in a matter of minutes without rebooting, even. Thank you for the tip, man. I'm definitely checking out the rest of their products!
