Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service.

Question

Every so often, 1 in 50, my laptop is very slow to start-up I get the "Please Wait" before the login screen.  Once I do log in I get the error:  

"Failed to connect to a windows service.

Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond."

Aero seems to be disabled also and cannot be fixed without a restart.  This problem is getting to be bothersome and I need to know if it could be hardware related.  Thank you in advance for you help.

This works!!! 

 Reset the Winsock Catalog

1. Open a Command Prompt as an Administrator.
2. Type “netsh winsock reset” (without quotes) and press Enter.
3. Restart the computer.

Hi,

Since when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any software or hardware changes to the computer recently?

Check if the System Event Notification Service is running or not. To check for the services

1.      Click on Start

2.      In the start Search box type Services

3.      Right Click on - RUN AS ADMIN

Check if the below mentioned services has the mentioned status and start up type.

System Event Notification Service            Started                 Automatic

Also, check the dependency services that are required for System Restore Service to run.

To check that double click on the service and click on the dependency tab.

For the system being slow you may try to improve the performance by optimizing Windows and check if that helps. Follow the link given below on how to optimize Windows.

The aero issue can be resolved by installing or reinstalling the updated graphics card drivers. You may check if any update for the Graphics card is available for your computer from the computer manufacturer.

Aero  disabled

I'm also having this problem.  It started right after an automated ugrade to Microsoft Security Essentials.  In addition by CPU utilization is nearly 100% a lot of the time when no programs are running.  I've run MSE and MalwareBytes - no infections found.  I perfomed a system restore to prior the MSE  update - the probem remains.  First time I did a system restore and then ran MSE - it prompted me to upgrade again - I did.  After a restart, the aero interface was restored and no SENS message.  Then after another restart, the problem was back.  A second system restore did not resolve the issue.  The SENS service reports as running in automatic mode and it shows as running.  Restarting the service does not seem to have any affect.

This is extremly anoying as I loose the aero interface and the performace is impacted.  Video drives are up to date - I've been running windows 7 in aero for 3 months without any problem until now.  help!

I am having the same problem. Just started. The only thing that changed was Microsoft installed (without my permission) the Bing Bar into Firefox and also some Enhanced Search Service, again, without my permission (and the Bing Bar will not uninstall.) It appeared to come with a .net update.

I have tried the winsock reset and it does not work. Takes forever to boot, the Please Wait takes a long time, and I get the same error message when it does boot up. I am VERY upset.
