Frank's solution didn't work for me too.

But i solved it by uninstalling the .net framework extended and left the .net client on the server.

Update worked after that and the extended component came back with the latest updates.

had same problem,for a week,go to control panel click uninstall programs,find >Net framework 4 client profile file ,then click right and do repair file ,install part worked fine right after

    Worked like a charm Frank.  And to think I spent nearly an hour with so called HP technical experts attempting to resolve this issue with nothing by failed results.

    Thanks, Frank.  This worked like a charm for me.  The repair took quite awhile, I actually thought it got hung up...but it didn't and it did eventually finish the repair.  Then the update installed nicely.
