How do I fix error code 0x8000000a so I can open my pictures?

We just experienced this error code today while trying to transfer a few pictures from our hard drive to a zip drive.  Now when I go to open most of our photos I get this error message.  Help!!!  How can I fix this problem?  Your assistance is most appreciated.

Hi 9289,

Since the pictures are still on your internal harddrive, you can try reformatting external harddrive and check.

You may try connecting the external drive to another PC to check if the device is working there. If so take a backup of the data and try formatting the drive.

Note: Before reformatting the drive take a backup of the data.

    I have Windows Photo Gallery Live installed (required for Movie Maker) on 30 machines in an IT room, and about half a dozen have this exact problem. The file is stored on a network folder, I can open the file no problem from the majority of computers as a domain user but the odd computer has this error. I've scoured the internet and this error message appears to be rather generic :(

    Profile are local, I've tried clearing the profile and logging on as a new user but opening any type of image fails using Photo Gallery with the error:

    "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error code: 0x8000000a"

    Photo Gallery Version 15.4.3538.0513

    I am getting this same error when I try to open a picture that is on my hard drive. I simply want to view. I tried opening through Live Photo Gallery, but it freezes every time. Checked for updates and there are none. I tried double clicking the photo, but this error occurs. Please, help.

    This is a brand new error for me.

    My computer did an automatic update and now my pictures on my new camera won't load. 

    It was fine before I was forced to update.

    Is it possible to go back in time?
