    HI,

    Method 1:

Check theVolume shadow copy service in services window. To check follow these steps:

    1.      Click on Start

    2.      In the start Search box type Services

    3.      Right Click on – Run as Administrator

Check if the below mentioned services has the mentioned status and start up type.

Volume Shadow Copy Service                   Started              Automatic

Also check the dependency services that are required for Volume Shadows Copy Service to run.

To check that double click on the service and click on the dependency tab.

    Method 2:

Disable the firewall/ anti-virus temporarily installed on your computer and then check if the issue still persists. If the issue resolves, then you might need to uninstall the software and reinstall it back or change the settings and check.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 3:

Alsocheck a drive for errors: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors

    Refer to:

    Hope this information is helpful.

my solution may be helpful to someone out there with the 0x807800A1 error:

after failing to find a solution to the problem online, it dawned on me that the problem started after I installed another os on another hard drive ... so I checked the Bios, and in the boot order, it had changed from disk 0 to disk 5 as the initial boot disk, strange, that, so I changed it back to have the windows os drive as the initial boot disk and it solved the problem, no more errors with disk image backup :)

I found the above to be a solution.  When you go to recover the created system image, you will have to unplug all other hard drives and place your "new" target system drive as the first sata drive on your motherboard.  Your Repair Disk will give you a system mismatch error if it sees other OS's when attempting repair operations.

I'm having the same issue with windows 8.1 and none of the methods seemed to work.

Any other suggestions as to what I should do?

    I have the same problem.

I find out that I had installed Microsoft office starter 2010 with the 'click 2 run'- configuration. This program creates a hidden partition (virtual Q:-station, or R:-station) and causes the failure of system images. You will see VSS writers giving error messages in your Windows Event Viewer. Or with a commant in prompt, which shows a list with 10 kind of 'writers'. Some of them fail. (In my list 3 of the 10 writers, after trying to make a system copy)

You have to remove Microsoft Office starter 2010 and (re-)install it without the click 2 run-option. I didn't find out how, and use Acronis True Image now, but it seems to be possible. I couldn't find a product-key, so I leave it. But this is maybe the cause for the backup-fail.

The command in cmd = vssadmin list writers.

makes sense. Yes, I went into the BIOS and changed the boot order and it fixed the problem . I was doing a system restore after a clone with Acronis when the error came up.

    Great tip!
