Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error 80040154

Question

I know this is one that comes up a lot but I have tried the suggestions at: http://windowslivehelp.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=f427b98c-8fc9-4e0c-9931-859ddf8caa69

But, it fails every time.  This all seems to have started since I downloaded Live Essentials.  I have to say that the 'embedded' Messenger in Hotmail is quite crappy and really, really annoying.  If I receive an IM it doesn't make a sound, so I sometimes don't see them for an hour or more if I am not at my lappy.

Also, I don't seem to have access to the items that amuse me like nudges and the other fun bits.  Is it just me or do other people feel the same?  If so, why can I not go back to the original Messenger?  I have removed Essentials but the 'old messenger still will not connect and I am constantly told that an important update needs to be installed - Essentials!!!  Hate it.

If you use WLM 2011, the problem seems to be related to a corrupted component ofWindows Live UX Platform: reinstalling usually fix it, but if you have still troubles, you should:

1. Uninstall WL UX Platform by using this command in the command prompt:

MsiExec.exe /X{CE95A79E-E4FC-4FFF-8A75-29F04B942FF2}

2. Clean system registry (with CCleaner for example);

3. Reinstall WL UX Platform.

Thank you for your response Debleena.  Yes, I had already tried the removal process and also tried to install an 'earlier' evrsion of Live Messenger but I still ended up with the Cannot connect message.

I did have an idea.  The repair suggestion of themsxml3.msi didn't work but my idea was this:  I do not have msxml3 in my control panel.  It is cuurently msxml4 Service Pack 2.  So I tried doing the 'fix' using 4 rather than 3 it it didn't work either.  :-)

I hope this further information may help you to help me!

As you have already tried the steps from the kb article of Windows Live, you may try to reinstall the application & check if the issue persists.
