Suddenly, the folder trees on the left on 'save as'/'open' dialogs are missing..

Hello all,

Today I discovered that my folder trees suddenly disappeared. What I'm referring to is this:

(For example,)

  1. Open Notepad.
  2. Go File --> Save As
  3. I will not be able to see the folder tree there.

I have tried it for a few programs (Microsoft Word, Editpad, Chrome, etc.) but all of them show the same problem. I have no idea what the trigger is either |:

I googled a bit but many of the results were relevant to Windows XP so I don't think they will work. Definitely hoping for some help here ((:

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Thanks!

Looks like I will have to answer my own question: I managed to find a solution! For those who might stumble upon this via google I'll be posting it here.

  1. Run command prompt as administrator.
  2. Type 'sfc /scannow' (without quotes)
  3. Wait for it to finish
  4. Restart your computer
  5. Problem solved!

I solved the "Folder tree missing in SaveAs dialog" as follows:

    1. Start the registry editor
    2. Navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CIDSave\Modules\GlobalSettings\Sizer]
    3. Rename Sizer to Sizer-old
    4. Close the registry editor

Now the SaveAs command has its library and tree pane back in all applications using it. Furthermore  the option under " Organize"  to turn them on or of now works properly.

    Hope this helps.

    @blaze1,

I don't think this is the case. I have been using Windows 7 on my system for quite a while already, and the folder tree has always been there.

It currently looks like this: http://i56.tinypic.com/20uaku8.png

Any possible help is apprecated (:
