Customize tab missing from properties menu.

Generally, when you right click on a folder, there will be a customize tab, so a user such as myself can add a picture to the folder.

I have researched this problem. I have tried going to the folders origins by clicking 'open folder location' then clicking properties, still no customize menu. One page mentioned edited the registry keys, I hesitantlyh tried that, but still I have no customize tab under folder properties.

Ideas?

I found the answer to my problem. I had to manually reset the tab in regedit.

Go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ Directory \ shellex \ PropertySheetHandlers

There is a key titled:

{ef43ecfe-2ab9-4632-bf21-58909dd177f0}

Mine had a space in front of it, the space was making it so the tab would not come up.

If you do not have the key add it and the tab will come up, if not, make sure the key is exactly as shown.

Here is an actual answer, from Rex Geissinger:

"If You are looking at a folder from symbolic link such as in a library the customize tab will not be present. This would be the case if you go to "My Documents" or "Documents" using the Library list in the Folder Pane of Windows Explorer.

If you right click on the folder you want to customize and choose "Open Folder Location" in the context menu above properties, Click on it and it will take you too the "Real" Directory location. You can then right click the Directory name and choose "Properties", you will now see the "Customize""

    Hello,

I know you said you tried to open file location, but let’s try step by step to make sure nothing was missed.

    1.      Single click the folder

    2.      Click on File > open folder location

    3.      Right-click on Properties

    4.      Click the Customize Tab

If those are the steps you tried and you are still unable to see the customize tab, please try the same steps in a new user profile to see if the problem is reproduced.

I, as well as a lot of people on here searching for a solution, have come upon a problem with the customize tab.

Mine wasn't showing but when I delved deeper, I managed to fix it. If you right click the downloads folder and choose properties, you probably haven't got the customize tab, never fear!

Go into the actual Downloads  folder and go to the tab at the top left called "organize"

In there, go to properties again and voila, the customize tab is there, its just a bit deeper than we originally thought  :)

Remember, when you tick optimize this folder for general items in the drop down box,  to also tick the box for all sub folders as well to avoid further heartache :)

Here is what I have tried:

    Rebooting,

Accessing folder properties through C:\Users\ (User name)\ Desktop\ Folder

running ccleaner to fix any registry bugs

a registry fix that was supposed to make it reappear
