Description

When trying to uninstall QuickBooks you receive an error message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."

This can be caused by running a program called CC Cleaner

Solution Description

*If you are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with editing the windows registry, Please call HD to have this escalated to a Systems Specialist.

*Before preforming the following steps please refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756 to backup the registry before making any changes.

  1. Click on Start and go to Run.
  2. In the Run line type in regedit and click on OK.
  3. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer.
  4. When highlighted on Installer you should see an entry in the right hand window named DisableMSI . If the value is anything other than 0, Edit the entry and change the value to 0.

Hello Santa Fe Cafe,

How long have you had this issue, or at least first noticed it?  One option might be to perform a System Restore to a point in time prior to having this issue.  Please let us know status.

System Restore:

also: there is no "DisableMSI highlighted or anywhere in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

as the article sent says there is-all other values are 0 except one that has "no value set"

I had to do a System restore early 2011.  I have Carbonite and still lost 2010 financials, except for my W-3s. Weird. But  usuable, as I had already filed my year end.

I was able to open Quickbooks until the R8 update was installed by/for Quickbooks in July(?).

I was able to do payroll until September, when Quickbooks would not load. I have used QB support where they even used remote access and blamed Microsoft last month..

Since then they have admitted error in their R8 update and posted an article with a "fix" which only made it possible to open my company filesback up from July 2010! Nothing after that will open.

    HELP!

I will have to put everything back in by hand and can NOT file my taxes or prove my numbers without QB working, as those files are not PDF or any format I can open without Quickbooks loaded.

You dont contact MS, unless you want to pay for support.

You follow the instructions in that QB support article

been there done that...that's how I lost ALL financials back to Jul 2010!

All back up disks after that are somehow corrupted by the QB updates.

I have no way to even start a different payroll service because the disks require QB to open to get the details for each paycheck. I have over 500 checks to input and a ridiculous amount of cash and debit transactions and my Bank uses Quicken2004(which I have, btw) but the products are not compatible or I could just export the register.

Any ideas? Or a suggestion for a better accounting software?
