I Currently have 2 Servers, 2012 R2 . I use Hyperv to replicate a number of VMs internally but i am about to introduce a 3rd server for replication off site. my question is if i take the second server out of the environment for maintenance for a period of a day or so would server 1 still replicate to server 3 off site or does hyper v always need to follow the original replication chain?

    Hi,
According to your description, you need to use extended replication to introduce the 3rd server.
Extended Replication in WS2012 R2 Hyper-V does not give you A-B and A-C replication where a VM is directly replicated from Site A to Site B and Site C simultaneously.
A limitation of this is that you cannot replicate directly from the 1st site to the 2nd and 3rd directly. It has to follow the “chain” of 1st to 2nd and then 2nd to 3rd.
Because when adding the extended replication to a third server, you will not be able to select which VHD files will be replicated. This is inherited from the Replica Server.

    Thanks for your time!
    Best Regards,
    Mico Mi
