C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\LXCItime.dll Missing Entry: RunDLLEntry

Question

Hi, just recently when I start my notebook I am receiving the following popup message: C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\LXCItime.dll  Missing Entry: RunDLLEntry.

The only new program I have installed has been a Lexmark printer, contacted Lexmark and with the assistance of a tech established that the driver had been installed correctly and was told that the popup message was a Windows problem.

what the message is stating is that it cannot find the file called:  LXCItime.dll

according to the windows registry, which would have been modified and updated by the lexmark software, the above file is registered in the registry but it is not in the physical location on the disk.

my suggestion is to unplug the printer from the pc then uninstall the lexmark software, then reboot.

next plug the printer into the pc and see if windows can automatically install the driver.  if not, then it will ask for your lexmark cd or you will have to run add/remove hardware control panel and manually try to install the driver for it.

remember that windows is telling you that the file in this location can't be found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\LXCItime.dll  

so you need to find and then copy the file called: LXCItime.dll

into this location: C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3

if the above location doesn't exist, then you will have to manually create the subfolder(s) in the same order as in the error message.

then inside the subfolder called "3", copy the missing file into it.

Hey DatabaseBen.  Glad I lucked into you 4 yrs. later.  lol  Was having same prob with W7 suddenly tweaking me on startup with Spool error message.  Tried other places before landing here.  And sorry it didn't work for the other person in need, but it did work for me.  Had to run it twice before my pc finally bellied up.  Thanks.  I can now boot up without cringing that my pc is calling me to account for failing to meet its needs.

oh, i didn't understand your previous response.

you could try to delete it and recopy it.   however, i don't think that particular file should be on your windows disk.   if it is a windows file, then your windows would have asked you to insert the xp cd so that it could install the file from it.

instead, it sounds to me that it is a lexmark file that is either corrupted or in-compatible with your xp.

maybe you should download a current copy of it from their website to ensure it is an up to date dll.  

you mentioned speaking with a lexmark tech.  so the possibility that your printer is not compatible with your system "or" the possibility that you don't have a driver for xp would have been discussed at the time.

so the above being said, if windows still states it can't find the file in that sub folder, then i don't have any other suggestions.

if it is a new printer, then i would return it for credit due to it being in-compatible with your system.   

frankly, xp is a very good o.s. and installing hardware on it should be flawless.   so if xp says it can't operate that piece of hardware, then it is highly unlikely the problem is with xp.  instead the problem is with the manufacturer of that product.

therefore buy some other printer like from hp or canon.

the problem you might encounter however, is that since xp is an older o.s., there may not be any new printers on the market that can run on it.  so ensure you read the side of the printer box and carefully review the printers system requirements.

you might try finding that dll, either on your hard drive or on the printer install disk and copy it to that sub folder where windows is being told it should be located in.
