Original title: corrupt master file table pleae help

hi all i have a problem i hope someone can help me with

first i have a toshiba satellite laptop running windows vista.i have 2 drives on it c: and e:

c being the main one with windows and e being the backup and where i put alot of my files,movies etc.

iv had no problems atall then i went to access the E drive yesterday and first it had no info under the drive icon just says LOCAL DRIVE E:

when i click it i get this message E:\ IS NOT ACCESSIBLE THE DISK STRUCTURE IS CORRUPTED AND UNREADABLE

I have tried to run chkdsk at startup and through cmd prompt and i get this message "corrupt master file table

cannot recover master file table chkdsk aborted" ..Device manager finds no problems. event viewer says "The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume E:."

i have alot of files on the drive that i dont want to lose.can anyone give me any advice on how to fix this problem i hope iv given you all the info you need. thanks in advance

    Hi helzf,

    You can try to run a Checkdisk on drive E to resolve the disk errors which might be causing this issue. You can take a backup of the data on this drive and try running checkdisk.

    Note: When you run the check disk, there are chances of losing data so you can take a backup before running checkdisk.
