Converting ASD back to word-Possible? HELP!

Question

Word document was created last Thursday and is no longer available. Discover it is now an ASD file. How can I convert this back to word (as soon as possible!)

The strange thing about Microsoft Word is that if you try to open a '.asd' file that is not in the Recovery Folder

(usually '%appdata%\Microsoft\Word')

then it will refuse to recognize it altogether!

But if you put the very same file in the Recovery Folder

(or even in a subdirectory of the Recovery Folder),

then Word will open it without so much as a whisper of complaint!

So just open an Explorer window,

paste '%appdata%\Microsoft\Word'

(without the quotes)

in the Address Bar and hit 'Enter'

Copy and paste your '*.asd' file into the open folder and click on the file to open it.

It will ask you:

'How do you wish to open this type of file (.asd)?'

'Look for an App in the Store'

'More Options'

Choose 'More Options'

Tick the box []'Use this application for all .asd files'

and scroll all the way down to 'Word (desktop)'

and click on it.

Home and dry!

I am using word 2007 version. I cannot still open .ASD files.

Please give any suggestion

Following your entire steps didnt work out so well for me, but after I have managed to open the asd. file on notepad, I went to FORMAT and clicked on the word wrap and immediately I could find some of the codes being converted to  words (and other codes) Nevertheless, I simply copypasted the non-gibberish ones (i.e. my entire lost doc) into an empty word doc and huzzah :) thank you for your help anyways!

i had similar problem and i was able to open the asd file by doing the followin:

In Microsoft Office Word 2010, click the file Menu, and then click Open. ...

In the Files of type box, click Recover Text from Any File(*,*).

Select the document that you want to recover the text from.

voila! there you are with your text recovered.\

save file immediately when it opens.

Just do a little mop up on your document and re-use.
