Remote Desktop keeps dropping connection

Hi,

I've just upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7. The main issue I have now with Windows 8 is that the remote desktop client is somehow broken for me. Whenever I use it, it blocks (i.e. I cannot interact with the remote computer) and then I get the pseudo-dialog box stating reconnecting and it will reconnect and I get back the remote access. It does this all the time (about every few minutes). Note that when I cannot interact with the remove computer, I can still ping it just fine. So clearly it is not a connection problem.

It seems to be an issue with the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client because I was so fed up, that I tried 2 alternatives: Terminals and mRemoteNG. Using them, the connection never drops.

However I'd like to use the Microsoft client as it is more practical to use. I've tried to copy some binaries from Windows XP or Windows 7, but they don't work properly when I try to launch them, I guess it is more than just `mstsc.exe' that one needs to copy (I've copied mstscax.dll as well, but it kept loading the one from Windows 8).

Anyone having a similar issue?

Thanks,

Manu

A hotfix came out on 11/13 that appears to fix this issue for me. The KB number is 2897602.

    Is there any update?

I have a similar issue. my host and remote computer are both using Windows 7.

I installed the patch related to RDP 8.0 for Windows 7,

and enable the RDP 8.0 in gpedit.msc, the problem happen.

Except the "Reconnecting 1/20" dialog, it has one more problem, the screen will freeze some second when I remote the host computer. I  guess some packets is lost, when the packets lost within a number, the "Reconnect dialog" appear.

When I disable the RDP 8.0 in gpedit.msc in my Host computer, all problems disappear.

I thing the new RDP 8.0 has a bug that freq disconnect session or drop packets.

I've posted as recommended per Vinod N to the TechNet community at:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itpronetworking/thread/9fd4d6d5-1adc-494d-a916-0032f3e08789/#9fd4d6d5-1adc-494d-a916-0032f3e08789

Looks like I'm not the only one having issue with Remote Desktop.

There are no answers there for me - tried removing printer drivers - no joy

Still happening and makes working from home impossible with win 8 (new Dell)

No problems with old win7 desktop :(

Make sure you post a message on the technet website, this is where we had more success to gather people having the same issue. Hopefully Microsoft will pick it up and provide a fix.
