Remove Properties function fails on removing location info on photos from Windows Phone

Question

On photos taken with smartphones running Windows Phone 7.5, the "remove properties and personal information" feature fails on removing GPS coordinates from the pictures.

After importing the picture to my computer, I right-click the picture in Windows Explorer and go in Properties>Details tab.

I click "remove personal information"

I get an error saying it was unable to remove the property. It fails on all three GPS properties: Latitude, Longitude and Altitude.

Any idea why?

Has there been a solution to removing the gps data from a picture file?  I have the same issue as discussed in this thread.

What I've been doing is opening the files in Paint and resaving them as PNGs, which can't store location info.

Inconceivable.  You started this thread almost a year and a half ago and the problem continues.  My wife's got your original problem under Windows 7 and I've got the one you mention here under Windows 8.  She's tried this in the various tools provided with Windows 7 and I'm trying it with Microsoft's Live Photo Gallery under Windows 8.  Inconceivable.

It seems the problem is finally fixed in Windows 8.1.

Now that it works in Windows 8.1 (I tried it and it does), is there any reason that it has not yet been fixed in Windows 7?
